The Word & The Gospel

If we’re going to build our lives on something, we need to know exactly what it means. Let’s look at what the Bible actually says.

Part 1: What is “The Word”?

When Christians say “The Word,” they are talking about the Bible. But the Bible isn’t just an old book of rules or historical poetry—it is alive, breathed out by God, and acts as a direct line of communication to our hearts.

📖 1. It is Breathed Out by God

The scriptures aren’t just clever human ideas. God guided the writers so that what we read is exactly what He wants us to know.

“All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.” — 2 Timothy 3:16 (NLT)

🔥 2. It is Alive and Active

The Bible doesn’t just sit there. When you read it, it speaks into your specific situation, your current mental health struggles, and your deep thoughts. It acts like a mirror for our souls.

“For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.”Hebrews 4:12 (NLT)

 3. It Guides Us in the Dark

When life gets confusing and you don’t know which way to turn, God’s Word acts as a guide to show you the very next step to take.

“Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.” — — Psalm 119:105 (NLT)

Part 2: What is “The Gospel”?

Now that we know the Bible is our source of absolute truth, what is the core message inside it? That message is the Gospel.

In the original Greek language of the New Testament, the word is euangelion, which literally translates to “Good News.” It’s a declaration of a rescue mission that Jesus already completed for us.

Here is the Gospel story broken down into four clear truths that you can look up right now:

📢 Truth #1: The Problem (We All Need Help)

The Bible is honest: we have all sinned. Sin is anything we think, say, or do that breaks God’s heart and separates us from Him. We can’t fix this gap on our own.

“For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.” — Romans 3:23 (NLT)

✝️ Truth #2: The Solution (Jesus Paid It All)

God loved us too much to leave us alone in our struggles and brokenness. He sent Jesus to die on the cross to take the punishment for our mistakes, and then Jesus rose back to life to beat death forever.

“But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.” — Romans 5:8 (NLT)

🎁 Truth #3: The Price (It’s a Free Gift)

You don’t have to clean yourself up, act perfect, or achieve a certain status to get God’s love. Salvation is a gift of pure grace. All you have to do is accept it.

“God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast.” — Ephesians 2:8-9 (NLT)

🔄 Truth #4: The Result (A Brand New Life)

When you put your trust in Jesus, your past is wiped completely clean. You get a fresh start today, eternal life tomorrow, and the Holy Spirit to walk with you through every single daily battle.

“This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!” — 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NLT)

Go Read it For Yourself!

Don’t just take my word for it! Grab a Bible (or open a Bible app and set it to the NLT version) and flip to these verses. Highlight them. Write them down.

The Word of God is there for you. It’s a safe space to find comfort, get called out when you need it, and realize that you are absolutely never alone.

Ready to Take the Next Step?

If your heart is pulling you toward something bigger, and you’re ready to stop carrying the weight of the world on your own, you are not alone. Dedicating your life to Jesus doesn’t mean you suddenly become perfect; it just means you’re choosing to walk with the One who loves you unconditionally. If you’re ready to accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior, you can start right now by praying this simple prayer:

A Simple Prayer of Faith

“Dear God, I know that I can’t do this life alone, and I admit that I need You. Thank You for loving me just as I am, right in the middle of my struggles. I believe that Jesus died for me and rose again. Today, I open my heart and ask Jesus to come into my life to be my Lord and Savior. Forgive my past, take control of my future, and help me to walk in Your grace and truth every single day. Amen.”

I’ve Decided to Follow Jesus!

I am so incredibly happy for you. This is the start of a whole new chapter, and I’d love to celebrate with you and be a resource as you get started.
