Scripture Focus: Joshua 23:14 & 2 Peter 1:3-4
We live in a world of “fine print” and “subject to change.” We’ve all been disappointed by a promise that had an unwritten expiration date or a commitment that fell through because of “unforeseen circumstances.” Over time, we can start to view God’s Word with that same skepticism, wondering if His promises are meant for everyone except us, or if they only apply when life is going smoothly. But the history of God’s people tells a different story—one where not a single word ever hit the ground.
A Perfect Track Record
When Joshua reached the end of his life, he didn’t just give a sentimental speech; he gave a factual report of God’s reliability.
- Not One Word Failed: He challenged the people to look deep into their own history and recognize that of all the good promises the Lord made, “not one of them has failed.” God doesn’t have a “success rate”—He has a 100% completion record.
- Precious and Magnificent: Peter describes these promises as “precious and magnificent.” They aren’t just nice thoughts; they are the very things that allow us to share in the divine nature and escape the “decay” of the world’s empty guarantees.
- The Living Proof: Every prophecy that pointed to a Savior was fulfilled in the person of Jesus. From His birth to His resurrection, God checked every box. If He was that meticulous about the “Big Picture,” you can trust He is just as meticulous about the promises He’s made to you.
Everything You Need
God’s promises aren’t just for the future; they are the high-octane fuel for your life right now.
- Life and Godliness: His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness. You aren’t waiting for a missing piece of the puzzle; through His promises, you already have the full kit.
- The “Yes” and Amen: As we’ve seen throughout this series, every promise finds its ultimate “Yes” in Christ. When God makes a promise, He isn’t just saying He might do something; He is giving you a glimpse of what He has already decided to finish.
- The “Yes” and Amen: Because God is a promise keeper, your hope isn’t a gamble. It’s a settled confidence in the One who has never once broken His word.
The Study Takeaway: God was a promise maker from the beginning, and He is a promise keeper to the very end. The same God who was faithful to Joshua and the disciples is the exact same God standing in your kitchen, your office, and your car today. His record remains unbroken.
