Scripture Focus: Galatians 4:6-7 & John 1:12
Most of us spend our lives feeling like we’re on a performance review. We act like “employees” of God—clocking in, trying to meet our KPIs, and worrying that one big mistake will get us fired. We treat our relationship with the Creator like a business transaction. But God isn’t looking for more staff; He’s looking for His children.
The Adoption Papers
The transition from a “servant” to a “son” (or daughter) isn’t something you earn by working overtime. It’s a legal and spiritual shift that happened the moment you believed.
- The Spirit of Adoption: God sent the Spirit of His Son into our hearts. Because of this, we don’t have to address Him with a formal title; we get to call Him “Abba, Father”—the equivalent of a child calling out “Daddy.”
- No Longer a Slave: You aren’t a servant who can be dismissed for a bad day. You are a child of the King, which means you have a permanent seat at the table.
- The Right to the Name: To all who received Him, He gave the right to become children of God. It’s not a suggestion; it’s a birthright.
The Inheritance Advantage
Being a child means you don’t just get the love; you get the legacy.
- You are an Heir: Because you are a child, God has made you an heir. Everything that belongs to the Kingdom is part of your spiritual inheritance.
- The Family Business: We don’t serve out of fear of punishment, but out of a desire to be like our Father. We get to join in the work He’s doing because we love Him, not because we’re afraid of Him.
- The Living Proof: We know we are accepted because Jesus, the Perfect Son, made a way for us to be brought into the family. He shared His status with us so we could share His home.
The Study Takeaway: God was a promise maker from the beginning, and He is a promise keeper to the very end. Your position in the family is secure, and your Father is never going to “fire” you.
