Scripture Focus: Matthew 28:20b & Isaiah 43:2
We’ve all been there: a literal or metaphorical storm hits, and suddenly we’re gasping for breath as one oppressive wave after another washes over us. When life gets rough, our first instinct is to look for a guide—someone to captain the ship or a loved one to give us one more hug and tell us what to do. But earthly guides eventually depart, leaving us feeling pretty desperate and alone in the middle of the lightning.
The Ultimate First Responder
The wild thing is that Jesus could have stayed in the calm of heaven where the seas are never rough. Instead, He chose to descend straight into our storms so that “lonely” would never have to be our permanent status again.
- The Promise: He didn’t just promise to be with us for the “good vibes” only; He promised to be with us always, even until the very end.
- Weatherproof Grace: When you pass through the waters, they won’t overwhelm you. When you walk through the fire, you won’t be scorched. God isn’t promising the storm won’t happen; He’s promising the storm won’t win.
- The Captain’s Table: He is the captain of the ship who actually knows how to navigate the rough waters. While we’re busy panicking, He’s busy guiding.
Tuning Out the Thunder
When you’re curled up in bed and the “rain” of life is pouring down relentlessly, it’s hard to hear anything over the noise.
- Listen Close: That is exactly when you have to tune your ears to hear His whispers instead of the thunder.
- Never Alone: Even when your earthly guides leave and take their wisdom with them, Jesus remains. He does for us what no human can do—He stays.
The Study Takeaway: God was a promise maker from the beginning, and He is a promise keeper to the very end. He is with you, He will never leave you, and you—yes, you—are never alone.
