Scripture Focus: 1 Corinthians 14:1 & Psalm 23:6

We often treat love like a feeling that just happens to us—something we “fall” into or out of, like a lucky break or a bad trip. But in the Kingdom, love isn’t just a sentiment; it’s a pursuit. It’s an active, intentional, high-speed chase. While we are busy chasing success, security, or even just a little bit of peace, God is busy chasing us.

The Divine Pursuit

Before we ever thought to look for God, He was already miles ahead in the pursuit of our hearts.

  • Surely Goodness and Mercy: The original language in the Psalms doesn’t just say goodness and mercy will “follow” you; it means they will pursue or hunt you down. You can’t outrun a love that has decided you are worth the chase.
  • The High Price of Love: God didn’t just shout “I love you” from the sidelines. He entered the race, took on our humanity, and pursued us all the way to the cross.
  • The Living Proof: The resurrection is the ultimate “I’m not letting you go.” Jesus beat death so that His pursuit of you would never have to end.

Making Love Your Aim

Because we are pursued by the greatest Love in existence, we are called to flip the script and pursue that same love in our own lives.

  • Pursue Love Earnestly: We are told to “make love our aim.” This means it’s the target, the goal, and the filter for every conversation and decision. It’s not something we do when we feel like it; it’s something we prioritize when it’s hard.
  • The Blueprint: Pursuing love means looking at 1 Corinthians 13 and realizing it’s a description of Jesus. To pursue love is to pursue Him—becoming more patient, more kind, and less prone to keeping score.
  • The “Yes” and Amen: Because God is a promise keeper, we know that our pursuit of love won’t be in vain. As we draw near to Him, He draws even nearer to us.

The Study Takeaway: God was a promise maker from the beginning, and He is a promise keeper to the very end. You can stop running to find love—the Greatest Love is already pursuing you, and He has no intention of stopping.
